October 20, 2003 - Bountiful, Utah Giving Back Is Charitable Focus Of Hess Corporate Travel Local Causes & National Efforts Benefit From Agency Personally and professionally, Alan Hess president and founder of Hess Corporate Travel, a leading travel management consulting and advisory firm specializing in business travel operations, believes in giving back to the community. As a supporter of Operation Smile, a national medical organization that provides facial corrective surgery to needy children throughout the world, Hess has seen firsthand the rewards of charitable efforts. A few years ago, he accompanied a group of Op Smile physicians to Meichou, China, a mission that performed over 100 corrective surgeries at no cost to the recipients. "Lives were changed, " said Hess. "There is nothing more important or gratifying than helping others, and it is our responsibility to try to make a difference," said Hess, whose Bountiful-based agency has been serving Northern Utah for the last 16 years. "As a business owner, I try to encourage my staff to get involved with in good causes." Earlier this year, Hess Corporate Travel supported Junior Achievement, a nonprofit organization teaching youth about business and economics, by participating in a fundraising bowl-a-thon put on by a client to benefit the group. The Hess team gave their time, bowling skills and donations to the cause. Hess Corporate Travel also sent three agents to a recent career day held at Centerville Junior High School. At the daylong "Reality Town" school education event, students were presented with information from area professionals to help them better understand different careers and businesses. Hess is currently partnering with a local Parent Teacher Association, and will experience the pleasure of helping a needy school in another state. His agency will donate airline tickets in support of the effort by a nearby elementary school to send books and supplies to a less fortunate school in western Pennsylvania. As part of a larger national effort, each spring for the last several years Hess Corporate Travel has organized a team of runners and walkers to join in fundraising for the Race for the Cure. Calling themselves the Hess Travelers, the group participates in the annual run held by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing research, education, screening, and treatment of the disease.
