Gift From Hess Corporate Travel Supports Public Radio Fundraiser
Supporting the community-based efforts of public radio, Hess Corporate Travel, Northern Utah's leading travel management consulting and advisory firm specializing in business travel operations, made a significant contribution to the mostly listener-funded station KCPW.
Hess Corporate Travel recently gave a pair of airline tickets and hotel accommodations for two nights in Washington, D.C., as a grand prize drawing for KPCW's on-air fall fundraising drive. The total air/hotel package provided by Hess was valued at nearly $1,500.
Everyone who made a donation to the station, regardless of amount, was put in a lottery for the chance to win the trip to the nation's capital. Included as the highlight of the journey was a personalized tour of the National Public Radio Washington, D.C.-based studios and the opportunity to meet the broadcast personalities.
"We thought this was an ideal opportunity to reach out to the business community and local listeners who care about news, public affairs and issues that affect us here in the Salt Lake City area," said Alan Hess, president and founder of Hess Corporate Travel, affiliates of American Express Travel Services headquartered in Bountiful since 1987. "Smart people support and listen to public radio."
With the addition of a broadcast transmitter in Bountiful and offices moving to the new Salt Lake City Library, KPCW's presence at 105.3FM is growing stronger. The not-for-profit station was founded in 1980 to serve Northern Utah with daily local news and national and international coverage from NPR, Public Radio International and the British Broadcasting Corporation. The founding mission of the station is to be a quality source of information and to hold elected officials accountable.
Cathy Ives, general manager of KPCW, orchestrated the grand prize trip and tour with Hess to entice listeners to make donations during the fundraising effort, which ran from October 20-29. Since approximately 90% of their audience is business people, Ives thought it a natural fit to reach out to Hess Corporate Travel for support. As the local experts in business travel solutions, Hess is also the fourth largest agency in the state according to the 2003 Utah Business Book of Lists.
